History
& Capabilities
PlanGraphics
was founded in 1979 by John C. Antenucci, who remains the company's
president and CEO today. The company developed an early focus on
turnkey information technology implementations, with a particular
focus on spatial information management technologies known as geographic
information systems (GIS) and automated mapping/facilities management
(AM/FM) systems.
Since those
first projects more than two decades ago, PlanGraphics has continually
expanded its range and scope, both through helping clients implement
promising new technologies (e.g., GPS, digital orthophotography,
high-resolution satellite imagery, data warehousing, and the Internet)
as they have become available, and through vigorous pursuit of new
methods, approaches, and capabilities as both GIS and IT have become
more integrated, more suited to enterprisewide application, and,
of course, ever more capable.
PlanGraphics
today offers a wide array of capabilities, both in Web-enabled GIS
implementation and in other IT applications that integrate and facilitate
the access, analysis, and interpretation of disparate data sets.
Our goal, as
always,
is to help clients make wise use of new technologies, adopting those
that offer real benefits, but avoiding risky and unproven ones:
- We are independent
management consultants who develop a variety of information technology
and GIS solutions to meet the specific needs of our clients. We
do not make the software, but we fill a variety of roles to make
state-of-the-art software work for a particular organization.
We are fully integrated GIS implementers providing our clients
with business-based total information technology solutions.

- We serve
as architects who work closely with the client to conceive an
appropriate solution, whether it be a new computer application,
an entire information system, or a fundamental reworking of an
existing system.
- We function
as design engineers who define and refine specifications for an
information system and lay out pragmatic, cost-effective ways
to achieve a solution.
- We serve
as general contractors who manage the work of several types of
vendors, including software and data conversion vendors. We guide
clients through the process of acquiring technology, installing
networks and building and integrating databases to increase the
value of their geographic and spatial information.
- We function
as facility managers, providing on-site professionals who manage
and bring technical experience to operate and maintain information
systems.
- We serve
as auditors of information systems. We look for improvements to
existing systems and keep up with ever-changing technology to
ensure that clients are always on the cutting edge of the best
practices in the industry.
In short, we
build new systems and applications and transform existing legacy
systems into systems that provide solutions emphasizing the value
of locational data. We extend departmental databases into enterprise
assets. We take concepts involving data about places, time, people
and things and build practical, cost-effective capabilities that
can enable a workforce to better meet the needs and demands of its
customers.
