TransAlta Utilities Corporation (TAU), the largest investor-owned electric utility in Canada, retained PlanGraphics to review the TAU AM/FM project and to objectively evaluate practical alternatives for migrating from its existing Intergraph VAX-based FRAMME platform.

PlanGraphics interviewed the TAU AM/FM project team to obtain an understanding of the history, objectives, and long-term plans for the project. Based on this understanding of TAU's existing AM/FM system and current and planned developments, PlanGraphics identified a number of possible migration alternatives for consideration.

PlanGraphics evaluated each of the AM/FM system migration alternatives for compatibility with TAU's corporate information and technology strategies, cost, impact on the organization, and other issues. Based on this evaluation, PlanGraphics recommended a migration alternative to meet the future AM/FM needs while best preserving TAU's existing investment in hardware, applications, data, and staff.
