PlanGraphics to develop business case for Oregon GIS Utility

FRANKFORT, Ky., December 21, 2004—The State of Oregon’s Information Resource Management Division has selected PlanGraphics, Inc. (Pink Sheets: PGRA) to develop a detailed business case for a statewide geographic information system (GIS) utility. This $479,000 assignment is the first phase of a multi-phased project intended to lead to the development of the GIS utility, envisioned as a cutting-edge data warehouse to maintain and distribute GIS data to a wide variety of GIS users in the state.

The Oregon Geographic Information Council has prepared a preliminary business case for the GIS utility. In this phase of the project, PlanGraphics will focus on detailed cost, benefit, and return-on-investment information. Specific tasks will include:

  • A comprehensive assessment and inventory of the existing geospatial technology infrastructure across the state, and recommendations on necessary technology changes and enhancements to develop the shared services environment for the GIS utility.
  • An assessment and inventory of existing data holdings, data sources, data sharing agreements, and data stewardship commitments, along with a gap analysis to estimate the cost for completing the required data development for the GIS data utility.
  • The conceptual design of a GIS data utility and project planning for utility development.
  • The development of a revised business case for the creation and operation of the GIS utility.
