PlanGraphics conducting GIS/MIS strategic study for Virginia Beach Public Works Department

FRANKFORT, Ky., August 11, 2003—PlanGraphics, Inc. (OTC BB: PGRA), is developing a GIS/MIS strategic plan for the Virginia Beach, Va., Public Works Department. The Public Works Department is a mature user of a multitude of information technologies, and the strategic plan is intended to determine how the department can make the best use of new or existing technologies.

"Virginia Beach has already made significant and successful investments in information technology," said Lisa Swain, P.E., PlanGraphics' project manager. "Our primary goal in this assignment is to give the Public Works Department a clear blueprint or roadmap that will enable it to achieve the highest level of benefits from its investments in the coming years."

PlanGraphics will conduct three major tasks:

  • Requirements analysis—PlanGraphics will identify key business problems, key integration opportunities and potential changes to the current GIS spatial data model, and will evaluate the current IT infrastructure to begin an assessment of long-term positioning of the department.
  • Conceptual design—PlanGraphics will develop a conceptual system design, focusing on the department's mission-critical business functions. A central point of the design will be to maximize the department's investment in software products by Hansen Information Technologies. The conceptual design will include positioning the department to take advantage of planned technology releases by its current vendors, as well as other third-party products on the market.
  • Implementation plan—PlanGraphics will define short- and long-term implementation options for the department, including cost estimates. PlanGraphics will only recommend options that are realistic and can be achieved over the next five years.
