Xmarc 7.1 beta version released

FRANKFORT, Ky., Aug. 9, 2007—PlanGraphics (PK: PGRA) and Xmarc Limited today announced the immediate availability of the beta version of Xmarc 7.1 for existing customers. The beta and commercial releases feature substantial enhancements for handling XML and images. A separate browser-based map rendering engine, Xmap, will be released in parallel. The commercial release is slated for mid September 2007.

Limited XML facilities were introduced in Xmarc version 6. This enabled Xmarc to read simple xml files with limited validation. Although useful, it did not handle all xml constructs and the destination Fire classes (structures) had to be defined manually.

V.7.1 introduces more comprehensive xml handling and facilitates easier data import/export without having to worry about “messy” xml formatting. Modifications include, among others:

  • Functionality of full xml parsing with an option to validate or not
  • Handling of binary xml data fields with the option of text, hexadecimal, or base-64 encodings.
  • Reading and conversion of .xsd files to receive data from an xml data file conforming to a particular schema and validation
  • Introduction of xml output facilities that insure the inclusion of necessary information to format the object properly, in terms of elements, attributes and data, when an object of that class is processed. Binary classes are supported permitting output in hex or base64.
  • For beginners, an added command which enables simple schemas to be created from a seed xml file without an in-depth knowledge of the schema syntax.
  • For manual interrogation of an xml files, the introduction of a new component type and function that will open an xml file (DOM style) and permit its hierarchy to be examined.

Image enhancements include read-only support for the Microsoft meta-file image formats .wmf and .emf, and further use of the GDI+ graphics library, with extended support for png, tiff, jpeg, bmp and gif, providing improved image performance. In addition, 32-bit png output (with alpha transparency channel) is now available.

Other enhancements include:

  • Ability to display in-memory or blob web pages in a web window
  • Double buffering enhancements to use various transitions between window repaints (e.g. wipe, fade)
  • Seamless pan facility for interactive window panning
